GRiZ and DrLupo Raise Over $18,000 For The Trevor Project During Four-Hour Fortnite Livestream on Twitch

The Trevor Project Provides Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Resources For LGBTQ Youth
On Monday, September 16, electronic music producer GRiZ and one of the world’s top Fortnite players DrLupo, teamed up for a four-hour Fortnite live stream on Twitch. The duo, along with top donors who were invited to play each hour, fundraised over $18,000 for the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning) young people, The Trevor Project. With the stream featured on the homepage of Twitch, they attracted 280,000 views to the four-hour fundraiser and engaged with donors through livestream fundraising platform, Tiltify. Before the livestream, GRiZ said: “Gonna be a blast to finally show Lupo how to properly crank 90’s. On another note, maybe I’ll finally get a W..... Can’t wait!”
During the stream, GRiZ and DrLupo incentivized players with raffle prizes like a professional AKRACING gaming chair, 2000Vbucks, and a number of premium GRiZ and DrLupo merch prizes, as they navigated different plays in the game.
DrLupo added: "I'm excited to work together with someone of GRiZ's caliber. Supporting a cause like the Trevor Project with him, while playing Fortnite (and hopefully getting carried) is going to be a ton of fun! Gaming does good, and an event like this will show that.”
GRiZ is no stranger to mobilizing his community in the name of philanthropy. In 2014, he launched his own annual 12 Days of GRiZMAS event series, which attracts fans from across the country for concerts, events and drives that benefit public schools in the Detroit area. Earlier this year, GRiZ was tapped to be the face of national underwear company MeUndies for their Pride collection, which raised funds for the Happy Hippie Foundation with each pair sold in June. Additionally, last year he participated in Facebook's Giving Tuesday campaign, to fundraise for LGBTQ non-profit organization It Gets Better.
Ahead of the game, DrLupo made a call to action to his 1.3 million Twitter followers to participate in the stream. His significant livestream fundraising efforts have made an influential impact in the non-profit community, especially for organizations like St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which he’s donated over $3 million to in the last year.
After releasing two wildly successful EPs this summer - Bangers[1].Zip and Bangers[2].Zip - GRiZ performed at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre for 20,000 attendees in his fifth sold-out year of double-header shows. Next he’ll embark on the second leg of his Ride Waves tour at the end of this month, where he’ll take to massive venues like Chicago’s Navy Pier at Festival Hall, LA’s Hollywood Palladium, and Berkeley’s Greek Theatre, among others.
